This white marsh egret is smaller in size, around 2 feet and is one of the most elegant of the herons. Snowy Egret gets its name from not only it's color, but it's beautiful curving plumes during breeding season.

It's feathers were once so in demand for hats that they fetched high prices in the fashion industry. The species became endangered in the earlier 20th century. Conservation efforts have restored the population and we can once again enjoy seeing them in tidal wetland areas.
